Tyrese was born on April 1, 2004, as the first child born from Melissa and Roderick's marriage. He grew up alongside a younger sister in Sydney, Australia, and also has an elder half-brother.

Tyrese Proctor dad Roderick "Rod" Proctor is a former basketball player from Mississippi.
Born in the US, Proctor played college basketball as a point guard for Mississippi College. He led his college basketball team to the Gulf South Conference victory in the 1993-94 season.
During his college career from 1990 to 1994, Roderick completed a total of 283 assists with an average of 2.6 assists per game.
Roderick eventually moved to Australia when he started competing in the Australian League. He initially played for Bankstown Bruins before becoming the captain of West Sydney Slammer in 1997. He also led the Sydney Comets to three consecutive Waratah League Championship wins from 2002 to 2004.
Proctor played a total of 18 seasons, during which he won awards and honors like the Peter Lopez Most Inspirational Player Award, NSW State League Player of the Year Award, and Golden Hands Award.
As of 2023, Tyrese's father works for the Bankstown Basketball Association as the Coaching Director and Skills/Development Manager.
Tyrese considers his dad the greatest inspiration of his life. It was Roderick who first handed the 18-year-old a basketball when he was only two. Further, he has given valuable basketball lessons to his son which has shaped the young athlete's career.
Melissa Proctor
Tyrese's mom Melissa Proctor is the Principal at Greenacre Public School in Greenacre, New South Wales. She has worked as a teacher for more than 25 years now.
Proctor was a leading figure during the 2022 NSW teachers' strike. She protested the regular shortage of teachers in her school.
Before joining Greenacre PS, Melissa worked as the Principal at Bass Hill Public School in Bass Hill, NSW. She is often credited for turning around the previously poorly-managed school.
During her tenure, she stopped the culture of students walking out in the middle of a class and controlled the violence and bullying of students. She also dropped the students' annual suspension rate from 50 in 2014 to 1 in 2017.
For her contributions to the Bass Hill school, Melissa won a scholarship granted by the Harvard Club of Australia Scholarship Program. She got the opportunity to participate in a leadership course at Harvard University.
