UCF flips 4-star LB Qua Birdsong from Cincinnati: What his commitment means for Knights
Mia Lopez UCF received a 2024 commitment from four-star linebacker Qua Birdsong on Sunday. It comes one day after the Knights landed a commitment from four-star offensive lineman Waltclaire Flynn Jr. Here’s what you need to know:
- Birdsong, from Troup County High School in LaGrange, Ga., is a top-400 prospect and the 33rd rated linebacker in the 2024 class, according to the 247Sports Composite.
- Birdsong was briefly committed to Cincinnati before de-committing last month and now choosing UCF. His flip could help spice up a budding rivalry between former AAC and incoming Big 12 foes.
- Flynn, out of Grayson High School in Loganville, Ga., is a top-300 prospect and the 20th rated inside offensive lineman in the 2024 class. Flynn and Birdsong are the top- and third-rated commits in UCF’s 2024 class, respectively.

The Athletic’s instant analysis:
What the commitment means for UCF
It was an up-and-down month of June for the Knights, who received a commit from 4-star, in-state running back Stacy Gage, but later received same-day de-commitments from Sincere Edwards and Sam Robinson, a pair of three-star in-state defensive players. The combo of Flynn and Birdsong is a nice boost for UCF coming out of the official visit stretch, and pulls Birdsong away from a conference rival. The Knights are now in the top 60 of the 247Sports national rankings for 2024.
