At age 81, Vivienne Westwood, a legendary British fashion designer who rose to fame in the 1970s with her iconoclastic aesthetic, passed away on Thursday.
In Clapham, South London, the godmother of punk passed away “peacefully and surrounded by her family,” according to a statement made public by her name-brand corporation.
Andreas Kronthaler, her husband and co-creator, asserted that she had continued to work till the end. He said “I will continue with Vivienne in my heart. We have been working until the end and she has given me plenty of things to get on with,” he said, “Thank you, darling.”

The creative fashion designer gained notoriety in the 1970s fashion world thanks to her androgynous designs, slogan t-shirts, and rebellious demeanor against the status quo.
She is recognized for playing a significant role in popularising modern punk and new-wave clothes.
She popularised new wave and punk fashion and was awarded the honorary title of “Dame” in 2006 for her contributions to fashion.
In addition, Westwood supported countless campaigns, causes, neighborhood charities, and NGOs, bringing her activism to the catwalk.
In 2012, she started her own Climate Revolution. She served as a Greenpeace ambassador and designed the organization’s official “Save The Arctic” emblem in 2013.
In 1990, 1991, and 2006, Dame Westwood took home the British designer of the year award three times.
