William Baranello's Baseball Recruiting Profile
William Harris Personal Statement
Ever since I can remember, baseball has been my passion. I was blessed with the opportunity to have been born in London, England and spent the first 16 years of my life there. Growing up as an athlete in Europe granted me the opportunity to see the world while playing against a wide variety of international athletes. Baseball isn't my only love: I have been a 3-sport athlete for my entire life. I have been in the starting lineup for 5 different varsity sports starting from the end of middle school until today. In my sophomore year, I was honored to represent my high school and travel to 10 different countries to play against local teams from each nation. These opportunities were enough to get me recognized by Coach Will Lintern of the Great Britain national baseball team. After making the GB national team, I competed for 2 consecutive years in the European Championships in Grosetto, Italy as well as the European Championship qualifiers in Stockholm, Sweden. Baseball has allowed me to see the world and broaden my horizons through the lessons it has taught me both on and off the field. Adversity, hardships, and high-pressure situations are not only aspects of baseball, but also of life in general. The lessons I've learned on the field will follow me long after my baseball career is over. I see baseball as one of my most influential mentors in teaching me how to deal with these aspects of life. Composure on the mound, sportsmanship, how to lose gracefully, and (most importantly) how to be a respectful winner are lessons that baseball has taught me that extend beyond the foul lines; they have shaped me into the person that I am today. I am excited to learn the next lesson this game has to teach me as well as to continue my baseball career at the collegiate level.
