William Barton's Men's Golf Recruiting Profile
Michael King Personal Statement
I'm a senior at Monsignor Farrell High School. I am also the captain of the varsity golf team, a role that is of vast importance because of the responsibilities that come with such leadership. Brotherhood and family are often preached by Monsignor Whalen, the headmaster of Farrell. I try to bring these core values to the golf team in order to build a strong foundation upon which our players can stand. I know that setting the right example for my teammates is key to having a successful season.
I also give golf lessons to an autistic boy named Mikey. The program goes beyond just teaching children with special needs how to golf; it focuses on the development of their social skills, as well as aiding them in escaping from the everyday monotony and challenges that they face. I find that the value of spending time with them is not only the enjoyment that they receive, but also the valuable lesson they teach me: putting your full effort and heart into everything that you do.
Recently I received a prestigious award called the Teddy Atlas award for Character. I received this award for the work I do with children with disabilities, and for helping run a number of junior high golf tournaments in the area. I hope to continue my efforts, leadership, and love for the game in the future, extending my talents onto the collegiate level.
