World Cup 2022: Costa Rican press blasts Keylor Navas and the rest of the national team: Worldwide ridicule...
Sophia Edwards Costa Rican media were anything but pleased following the national team's 7-0 thrashing at the hands of Spain in their World Cup opener on Wednesday night.
La Roja kicked off the 2022 World Cup in style against a weak Costa Rica side who looked unable to react throughout a game, one which Spain dominated from the off.
"Ridiculous", "shameful" and "pathetic" are just some of the adjectives that have been used from the main Costa Rican media, who harshly criticised the team coached by Luis Fernando Suarez.
"The worst beating in history. It was a soulless team against Spain," read La Nacion.
This humiliating defeat and the performance of Keylor Navas will not be forgotten easily in Costa Rica, with the ex-Real Madrid goalkeeper being lamented for his lousy game.
"International ridicule! Spain humiliate the national team," read Diario Extra.
"Fearful, lost and with no spirit at all."
